Who is Our Lady of Fatima? Part 2

The second apparition, or vision, of Our Lady to the three shepherd children occured on June 13, 1917.  The children came to the place of the first vision on the 13th day of the month as had been requested by the Blessed Virgin.  This time a small crowd, having heard of the first apparition, joined the children.  Our Lady came preceded by a flash of light which the children described as lightning.  Lucia said, “Please tell me, Madam, what it is that you want of me.  Mary replied, “I want you to come here on the thirteenth of next month.  I want you to continue saying the rosary every day.  And after each one of the mysteries, my children, I want you to pray in this way: O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell.  Take all souls to heaven, especially those who are most in need.”  She said further, “I want you to learn to read and write, and later I will tell you what else I want of you.  Lucia asked, “Will you take us to heaven?”  “Yes, I shall take Jacinta and Francisco soon, but you will remain a little longer; since Jesus wishes you to make me known and loved on earth.  He wishes also for you to establish devotion in the world to my Immaculate Heart.” * Opening her hands, Mary cast the children in an intense light in which they felt immersed in God.  In her right hand was a heart pierced with thorns.  This, the children realized, was Mary’s Immaculate Heart offended by the sins of the world and calling out for reparation.   To be continued…. ( * note: Jacinta and Francisco would die within a few years of the apparitions and Lucia lived as a Carmelite religious until 2005)
