This Bible study group meets from 9-10:30 am every Monday from Labor Day to Memorial Day in the St. Joseph room. Recently we have been studying the Gospel of Mark using a structured study guide from Ascension Press which includes occasional DVD support. This autumn we will be transitioning to the study of one of St. Paul’s letters.

The group meeting size is typically 8 to 15 people and the discussion is usually lively.

The Men’s Friday Morning Bible Study has been meeting at 6:30AM on Friday mornings in the Parish Center with an optional Rosary at 6:10.

We have found this time works well for us to break open God’s Word and then head out into our daily lives ready to be His disciples to our friends, family, and co-workers.

The format is relaxed with different volunteers of all levels of biblical knowledge taking turns leading the discussion, one to three chapters at a time.

Over our 13+ years we have covered the Old and New Testament and welcome new members of all ages and experience at any time. We typically have between 6-12 men on any given Friday.

Retreats

A Catholic retreat is a period of time, often spent in solitude, to take a mindful break from everyday live and focus on prayer, the Sacraments and our relationship with God. The word “retreat” comes from the Latin word retrahere, which means “to draw back, withdraw, call back”. The tradition dates back to Christianity, with Jesus spending 40 days in the desert after his baptism as an example

White House Retreat is a Jesuit Retreat House based on The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius. Three-day preached retreats are offered throughout the year.

On each retreat there are four or five priests available for private conferences and the celebration of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick. Men of St. Joseph Parish usually attend as a parish once a year.

Days of Recollection

A terrific way to find a bit of solitude and detachment. A day of quiet and prayer, spiritual nourishment and refreshment.

Take advantage of one of these at our parish as we seek repentance on the path toward conversion.

Men’s Day of Recollection

During a Saturday in Lent, the parish sponsors a Day of Recollection for the men of the parish.

It usually lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Topics in the past have dealt with Male Spirituality, Prayer, Forgiveness and Eucharistic Spirituality.

More information concerning the Men’s Day of Recollection can be found in the bulletin and the parish website in February of each year.

All men 18 years or older are invited to participate in this annual Day of Recollection during the season of Lent.

Women’s Day of Recollection

Annually the Catholic Women of Faith offer, during Lent, a Day of Recollection. You will experience presentations by well known and recognized spiritual leaders throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Previous topics have been: Be known and Understood by our Loving God – We are Women at the Well; The Season of Lent for Women: A Time to Reflect, Recreate and Renew; Holy Women Past, Wholly Women Present.

A typical day would include a Continental Breakfast, prayer, speaker, a time for reflection, sharing, Mass, lunch, free time for the Rosary or Stations of the Cross and a wrap up session.
Women of 18 years and older are invited to attend this wonderful day of spirituality.
